This week: 1) Scarecrow Projects and Oral Presentations are due Tuesday! Remind your child to reread the yellow handout to make sure all requirements are met.
2) Library books are due this Wednesday.
3) You should have received an email from me regarding your scheduled time for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Be on the lookout, and let me know right away if your time works or not. Conferences are being held Tuesday, November 13th through Friday, November 16th. Highlights of What's Happening in D25?
Reading: We finished Unit 2, How Characters Affect Stories. We're excited to begin the wonderful book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane this week. We'll use what we learned about key events, character traits, and how character's actions affect stories as we examine this book.
Writing: Continuing to work on Narrative Writing. As students prepare for their second narrative piece, we are now looking at powerful leads and dialogue in order to add these elements to our next writing piece.
Language: Over the past couple of weeks we studied coordinating conjunctions (and, or, but, so) to form compound sentences, and subordinating conjunctions to form complex sentences (although, before, after, because, since, unless, until, when, while). We continue to examine Latin roots when they come up in our reading.
Math: We're continuing our work in Module 2 (Place Value and Problem Solving with Units of Measure). The kids have enjoyed our exploration activities with grams and kilograms, as well as the lesson involving liters and milliliters. We completed the mid-module assessment, which will come home this week. As always, continue having your child practices those times facts! Go to the math websites for support (linked on my home page).
Art: We're almost done creating fall collages using oil pastels. They look beautiful!
