From Ms. Thomas: Last week, we discussed the life and accomplishments of Martin Luther King, Jr. Enjoy the holiday Monday as we celebrate this great American.
A reminder that Progress Reports will continue being sent home. They will be sent home in Wednesday folders over the next couple of weeks if there are any concerns here at school.
Here's what's coming up this week.
This week: 1) Reading: We will continue with Week 3 of Unit 4 of our Benchmark Close-Reading texts. The focus has been on point of view in fiction texts. Skills covered include comparing points of view between characters in a story, along with the rules for the comparative (-er) and superlative (-est) forms.
2) Math: We'll continue Module 4 on Multiplication and Area this week, covering Lessons 10-12. Have your child continue to practice their multiplications facts if they don't know them to automaticity (10-15 minutes a day will do!).
3) Writing Workshop: We have been working on our Animal Information Reports. Students began note-taking on their first subtopic last week, and we'll continue this with Subtopics 2 and 3 this week. You can continue helping support your child by allowing them to do research on their animal online. Just google (animal name) for kids, or websites like National Geographic for kids. Students will also need photographs of their animal to include in their report, so these can be printed out at home as well.
4) Social Studies/Science: Our next units will focus on the history of the Ohlone Indians who inhabited our local area, along with the adaptations of the local flora and fauna.
